Art in the Garden: Children's Workshops
Come join us in the Garden and discover the hidden artist within you. Create your own original art by imitating the light-filled impressionism of Monet, the eye-catching abstracts of O’Keefe, and the colorful expressionism of Van Gogh. The program is designed for children from first through fourth grade. All materials are provided and classes are held rain or shine. Child must be accompanied by an adult.

Sunday, Sept. 19 - Impressionistic Painting
Create an impressionistic painting in the spirit of Claude Monet. First we will read aloud Linnea in Monet’s Garden. Then using sponges, construction paper, and stencils, children will make a painting of themselves standing on the bridge over the pond in the Paca garden.

Sunday, Sept. 26 - Collage
Children will create a collage. They first will listen to Eric Carle’s children’s book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Then using Carle’s technique, they will make a colorful tissue paper collage and an egg carton caterpillar.

Sunday, Oct. 3 - Abstract Flowers
Children will study the difference between realistic and abstract art by looking at some of Georgia O’Keefe’s wonderful, large flowers. First they will read Through Georgia’s Eyes. Then, using crayola markers, the children will create their own abstract painting using the flowers in the Paca garden as models.

Sunday, Oct. 10 - Van Gogh’s Flowers
Children will use washable poster paints to create an expressionistic picture in the spirit of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. First, they will hear Camille and the Sunflowers. They then will paint flowers from the Paca Garden, emphasizing the bold colors and dramatic style of Van Gogh.

Space is limited and registration is required. Enroll for all four classes, or come for just one!
