EXCLUSIVE ANNAPOLIS KITCHEN TOUR

& DESIGN SEMINAR

To Benefit the William Paca House

ANNAPOLIS, MD Monday, March 12, 2007--Support the historic William Paca House while you enjoy an exclusive tour of state-of-the-art kitchens at the Historic Annapolis Foundation’s 2007 Kitchens of Annapolis Exclusive Tour & Design Seminar on Saturday, April 28, 2007. You can also take a chance to win one of six prize packages featured in a “Best of Annapolis Raffle.” One hundred percent of the proceeds from the tour, seminar and raffle will go towards a special restoration project at the William Paca House. Design Solutions, Inc., and Kitchen Encounters are corporate sponsors.

Kitchens of Annapolis Tour

From 2 to 7 p.m., visit kitchens in private homes from the 19th to the 21st centuries—all recently renovated and displaying the very latest in cutting-edge kitchen design. Included are homes in the historic Murray Hill neighborhood, an area platted in the late 1800s that holds grand homes built by the city’s elite and smaller, simpler 20th-century homes that are now being upgraded by the city’s newer residents.

More unusual venues on the tour will also tempt you--including the galley on a classic Trumpy yacht and on two luxury RVs parked near City Dock. A little farther afield the commercial kitchen at Loews Annapolis Hotel will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. for a behind-the-scenes tour and special tasting prepared by Executive Chef Allison Trinkle.

Committee members have worked with the staff and Friends of the Banneker-Douglass Museum to make plans for the Museum to be a hospitality stop on the tour. The Friends of the Museum will be serving foods from their Friends of the Banneker-Douglass Museum Cookbook. While you are there, enjoy an array of entertainment including a humorous vignette by historian Janice Hayes-Williams performed by Scotti Preston based on life in an early 20th-century kitchen in Annapolis’s African American community.

You’ll find more refreshments and entertainment at Historic Annapolis Foundation’s HistoryQuest at 99 Main Street, including Early American music performed by the historical group Bedlam as well as food generously provided by Miss Nancy’s Fancy Bakery, and other Annapolis food purveyors.

As a bonus, Kitchen Tour participants that weekend will be admitted free to the historic William Paca House and Garden, the National Historic Landmark that was home to signer of the Declaration of Independence William Paca and his family. Of special interest is the House's recently restored 18th-century kitchen. Docent-led tours of the House will be given hourly on the half hour, Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. The last tour of each day begins at 3:30 p.m. The Garden tour is self-guided.

Kitchen Design Seminar

Thinking about redoing your own kitchen? Start the day at the Kitchen Design Seminar at The Rockfish Restaurant in nearby Eastport. From 10 to 1 pm., award-winning designers and builders will offer advice on the latest in kitchen design--from counters to colors and everything in between.
The title of the seminar, C.R.E.A.T.E., represents the topics the experts will cover: Conceptualizing and planning your kitchen; Resources and professionals available to serve you; Environmental issues and universal design elements; Appliances – including what's new and energy efficient; Time – how much time you actually need to plan, budget, schedule, and renovate to preserve your fiscal requirements; Enrichment – how to fulfill your dream of design, diminish your construction nightmares, and maintain your finished project.
Following the seminar, have “Lunch with the Experts” and hear from renowned chef Craig Sewell, founder and proprietor of A Cook’s Café and the Chesapeake School of Cooking. Craig will offer his ideas on “Designing a Kitchen from a Chef’s Point of View” while conducting a special cooking demonstration. (Seating for the Design Seminar and Luncheon is limited; advance registration is required.)
